Xbox Series X
Made From Dreams

The Xbox Series X is the most powerful console out there. To prove it, we showed how it can influence the dreams gamers have in their sleep. Seriously. We partnered with MIT researchers to capture the dreams of gamers after playing. Then we worked with world-renowned creators to bring them to life.

“Lucid Odyssey”

To kick off the program, we worked with Taika Waititi to make a film out of real dreams a gamer had after playing Ori and Halo.

3D Audio Dreams

Next, we made an immersive audio adventure out of a blind gamer’s dreams after he played Destiny 2: Beyond Light. This piece also showed off the 3D audio capabilities of the Series X, which for blind and low-vision gamers, can make all the difference.

OBJ’s Dream Kit

We even partnered with Nike to make a custom controller and shoes out of Odell Beckham Jr.'s dreams. OBJ, who has been an Xbox fan since he was a kid, shared his "Dream Kit" with other influencer friends, including KD, Quavo, Lebron, Biebs, and Drake.

Dream Art

The program didn’t stop there. We enlisted Quentin Deronzier to make motion art out of dreams inspired by several next-gen games, including AC Valhalla.

AR Dream Filters

And last but not least, we worked with Johanna Joskowska to create IG and Snapchat filters out of dreams inspired by Cyberpunk 2077 and Destiny Two: Beyond Light.

Behind the Science

To capture the dreams, MIT researchers used the Targeted Dream Incubation (TDI) technique. Gamers played the Series X, which acted as a stimulus for their dreams. Then, they fell into a sleep state called hypnagogia, which was tracked by a headband they were wearing. During hypnagogia, we begin to dream—but can still hear the world around us. So when the gamers reached this state, they were asked to talk about their dreams. Science, am I right?
